Miami Beach, Florida - February 15, 1969I was fortunate not only to be able to photograph John “Bonzo” Bonham, Led Zeppelin’s drummer, but actually meet and talk to him. You can read the story of our meeting here.John is considered by many to be the best rock drummer in history. I was so pleased to see his son, Jason, playing with Led Zeppelin at their O2 Arena Reunion Concert on December 10, 2007. They originally broke up the group after Bonham’s death in 1980.

Jim Morrison & the Lamb
Today is the 55th Anniversary of the Miami Doors Concert.
This one’s a classic from March 1, 1969. There is a 16″ x 20″ of this, that I printed and signed, hanging in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. It’s Jim Morrison at the infamous Miami concert.

Janis Joplin
West Palm Beach Rock Festival - West Palm Beach, Florida - November 30, 1969
This photograph of Janis was shot at the West Palm Beach Rock Festival. Just three and a half months after Woodstock, it was nicknamed Woodstock South. Also at the three day festival was Jefferson Airplane, Sly Stone and the Rolling Stones. I camped out in a tent and endured rain and mud.Janis died of an overdose 10 months later.
I produced this special effect print in the darkroom over 50 years ago.

In the late sixties and early seventies, I wanted to do special effects photography. The only market, at that time, was album covers and posters for rock groups.
I never realized that someday the photographs would be classics as straight images.
