Stormy Utah Peak - Virgin, Utah - August 2, 2007

Virgin, Utah - August 2, 2007

This was shot with my old Olympus E-20 digital camera (a mere 4.7 megapixels), back in 2007, on this date. The conversion to black & white really brings out the clouds and emphasizes the various layers of texture in the image.

Here is the original color image.
Very nice, but no where near as dramatic, don’t you agree?

Glad you guys really appreciate the classic black & white photography.

Had you told me this was an Ansel Adams original I would have believed it without hesitation.

Thanks, Scott. I am a big fan of Ansel Adams, have been since I started in photography. I spent years perfecting my film/darkroom techniques. I also had a lengthy career as a black & white mural printer.

I really prefer digital, however (I am asked this often). The chemicals and expense were restrictive, not to mention you had to work in the “dark.”

The B&W really shows the ‘angry’ sky better.

WOW! You’re right! Really makes the sky’s “anger” really pop out.

You may remember, when we were kids and I couldn’t afford color film, I’d take all b&w and try to get interesting angles.

Your fabulous b&w work reminds me of those days…

    Thanks,
    Jim
